Sweetness

Like grape branches that must be lifted up and placed along a cross-like trellis to produce fruit, allow your thoughts and feelings to be lifted up to the Cross of Calvary, so the Gardner can help you cultivate virtuous fruit.

If you let Him, He will even lift up your heavy, anxious branches and wrap them around Himself, the Cross, so their death will be swallowed up in victory–the resurrection: new branches of sweetness from scarred limbs.

But even this is penultimate. Sweetness is only sweet to taste. The vineyard Keeper harvests all the sumptuous fruit you produce, not wasting a single grape, to make a decadent wine for a celebratory (celestial) banquet where you, my son, are the guest of honor. It is there–your destiny–that you were meant to enjoy fully the wine of your heroic wisdom, the sweetness of your terrestrial suffering.
